FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Downtown Salinas Chocolate Walk supporting Special Kids Connect to be held on February 8 Salinas, California (January 6, 2020) – Special Kids Connect, with support from Downtown Salinas merchants, will hold its first annual Downtown Salinas Chocolate Walk on Saturday, February 8 from 11 am to 3 pm on the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of Main Street, as well as on the Gabilan and Alisal cross-streets of Downtown Salinas.

Over twenty businesses will be offering chocolate-inspired treats of their choosing to an anticipated 200 chocolate walkers during the 4-hour event. Visitors can purchase passports in advance at www.salinaschocolatewalk.com for $15 each. On the day of the event, Chocolate Walkers will pick up their passports in Downtown Salinas with a map of participating locations. They will also receive a small treat bag to carry goodies home.

Throughout the event, in addition to enjoying a variety of chocolate-themed treats, walkers will be eligible for prizes and discounts being offered by participating businesses, exclusive to passport holders.

Lori Luzader, Executive Director of Special Kid Connect, says the idea for a Chocolate Walk was inspired by one that takes place in Flagstaff, Arizona each February. “I have been looking for a signature family-friendly fundraising event for Special Kids Connect that would be embraced by the community we serve. One of our most popular programs, REACH Theatre, takes place in Downtown Salinas twice a year. We love this area and believe it is the perfect location for a sweet stroll on a Saturday afternoon.”

Luzader adds that she sees this fundraiser as a win-win for her organization and for the merchants in Downtown Salinas. “February tends to be a slow time of year for retailers everywhere. Positioning an event like this right before Valentine’s Day increases foot traffic in Downtown Salinas and gives merchants opportunities to offer Valentine’s Day promotions.”

Special Kids Connect is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to develop resources, raise awareness, and provide support to the 10,000-plus children in Monterey County who have a special need. One of its most beloved programs is REACH Theatre, which takes place in Downtown Salinas at ARIEL Theatrical each spring and fall. For more information, visit www.salinaschocolatewalk.com.
